The perceptions of social media's chat rooms in general, and Facebook chat rooms particularly, their use amongst Algerian adolescents, and their positive use to achieve educational objectives are the main points covered along this dissertation. The aim of the present study is to show how chat rooms can improve students' English writing skills. It is based on the hypothesis that using Facebook chat rooms will help in developing the writing ability of secondary school learners. As far as the data-gathering tools are concerned, a students' questionnaire and a quasi experiment were designed by the researchers and used as the main tools. They were administered to secondary school students to determine their perceptions of and responses to this experiment. Throughout data analysis, it has been confirmed that the use of Facebook chat rooms is of great impact on the learners' writing skill as it enhances learners' motivation and engagement. Hence, the obtained results answered all the questions and confirmed the research hypothesis.enWriting skillSocial mediaChat roomThe Role of chat rooms as a medium to enhance the learners’ writing skillOther
