The study tried to answer the following questions: could learners of English improve their writing if they work in groups? Is the focus on cooperative learning a good strategy that helps learners overcome their writing skill? To reach our objective, fourty students in Larbi Ben M'Hidi university, department of english, were selected randomly in the 2nd semester of the academic year 2013-2014.To achieve valid results of the study, a pre-test was designed for the writing skill. The writing materials were designed to be taught through the use of cooperative learning strategy for the experimental group. However, the control group received the traditional instruction (individualistic instruction). By the end of the experiment, the writing post-test was designed for both groups. The results of the post-test reveal that using the cooperative learning strategy does not significantly help second year students to write effective paragraphs. The significant positive and negative influence of the cooperative learning strategy has not been confirmed through many statistical parameters that indicated valid results. The conclusion that can be drawn from these results is that cooperative learning strategy has no effect on students writing skill.enTechnique english : writing skillImproving the writing skill through cooperative learningthe case of the second year LMD students department of english, Oum-El-Bouaghi universityOther
