To achieve the purpose of our hypothesis, an experimental method with a quasi-experiment was conducted. Two pre-existing groups were randomly selected to take part in the experiment as the experimental group and control one. A pre-test has been administered to both groups to know their writing ability before the beginning of the experiment. During the treatment, the experimental group receives classroom instruction about writing an argumentative essay. After the treatment period, a post-test was administered to both groups. It is similar to the pre-test. The obtained results have demonstrated that the experimental group who had a regular practice with the process approach made more improvement than the control group. To determine the validity of these results, we have used the student t test which determined that the results are statistically significant, and on the light of this conclusion the established hypothesis has been corroborated. This investigation emphasized that outlining essay is an important technique to improve students' writing achievement.enForeign language : englishTeaching : english : writingThe Effect of outlining essays on improving students' writing achievementthe case of second year LMD students of english at Larbi Ben M'Hidi university, Oum-El-BouaghiOther
