There were a lot of factors that led to the civil rights movement. One factor was the brown vs. Board education decision by supreme court in 1954 stating that segregation on schools was unconstitutional, and other was the arrest of Rosa Parks in 1955 for refusing to give her seat for a white man .They continued struggling until the assassination of Martin Luther King in 1968. In addition, black women played an essential role in this movement. They risked their lives in order to gain civil rights that brought the different organizations led to the development of black women's political participation.
