dc.description.abstractThe interest in idioms has become a fascinating area of research.Within the context of EFL, learners encounter obstacles in understanding such figurative expressions .i.e., Idioms. The present study, thus, aims at assessing and examining the effectiveness of context in enhancing EFL learners' idiom comprehension. The target population was first year LMD students of English at Larbi Ben M'Hidi University, OumElboughi. For the sake of examining the research hypothesis which states: providing idioms with context will significantly enhance student's comprehension of idioms, a quasi-experiment was conducted as the hypothesis and the topic require. This method is designed with a pre test, treatment and a posttest. The final findings reveal that the independent variable (context) has a positive impact on the dependent variable (EFL learner's idiom comprehension). Students show a considerable development in linking the context of the stories to the meanings of the given idioms. They prefer to learn idioms in a context which makes it easier for them to understand their meanings. In the sense that context restricts the amount of interpretations which lead them most of the time to guess the meaning of idioms appropriately.ar
