Abstract
This study attempts to shed light on the effectiveness of sight translation in vocabulary learning with a reference to EFL learners' opinions this subject. Few are the studies regarding such topic especially when dealing with the combination English-Arabic. In our study we attempt to get clear insights into the role of sight translation activities in helping EFL students acquire new vocabulary, since vocabulary is a permanent part of their everyday classes. It also aims at exploring the learners' perspectives about the use of ST in vocabulary learning and evaluate its effectiveness in the field of EFL learning. In the current study both qualitative and quantitative methods were administrated in the analysis of data. The population of this project was third year English students at Larbi Ben M'hidi Oum el Bouaghi during the academic year of 2020/2021. 60 students answered questionnaires containing 23 different questions that fall within the frame of our topic. When discussing the findings, it indicated that the participants hold positive attitudes for the effect of sight translation on vocabulary learning. Moreover, the study revealed that the students feel like they have gained new words after practicing ST tasks and the more they mastered the ST technique the more they acquired new words.
