Abstract
The socio-cultural competence is one of the backbones of learning a language that should be boosted in teaching/learning EFL classes. As a result, students find it challenging to convey meaning while communicating with English native sparkers because the language used in the classroom varies from the one used in social and cultural contexts. In order to help EFL students to earn a sufficient sociocultural competence, teachers are required to use creative tools. For this reason, this present study aims at investigating Oum El Bouaghi University EFL teachers' and students' attitude towards the use of memes in improving EFL learners' sociocultural competence. To reach such aim, a descriptive mixed method approach was conducted through forming a questionnaire for 80 on EFL Master's students that were chosen randomly and a semi-structured interview that was conducted with 16 teachers of English at L'arbi Ben M'Hidi University, Oum El Bouaghi. The results indicated that most EFL teachers and students at the English department- at Oum el Bouaghi University- have positive attitude towards the use of internet memes to improve EFL learners' socio-cultural competence because of their ability to mirror the social and cultural elements of the target language.
