Abstract
Reading comprehension is a fundamental aspect in EFL teaching and learning. It is an active process that reflects the learners' ability to go beyond the words to grasp the meaning and the relationship that exists between ideas in a particular text. The present study aims at investigating the effect of mind mapping technique on improving learners' reading comprehension of narrative texts. An experimental study with a quasi-experimental design was carried out with second year pupils at Saleh Boudjnana secondary school in Mila. Pre- and post-tests were designed with two pre-existing groups. The first one is the experimental group and the second one is the control group. The pre-test and the post-test content was identical including one narrative text followed by a reading comprehension task in the form of multiple choice questions. The findings of the study strongly confirm the alternative hypothesis and emphasize the effect of mind mapping as a teaching technique on enhancing learners' reading comprehension of narrative texts.
