Abstract
Knowing just about vocabulary is not enough to produce accurate pieces of writing. Punctuation has a crucial and sophisticated role when we deal with the process of writing. However, it seems to be a problematic scary area for second/ foreign language learners. To capitalize appropriately means to ensure the organization of any paper; so that, the reader can understand what has been written easily. Our study concerns the difficulties that students may encounter while using capitalization. We have hypothesized that Students' face difficulties in using capitalization. In order to prove the confirmation or the rejection of our hypothesis, two questionnaires were used. One was administrated to teachers, and the other one is for students. The teachers' questionnaire has been delivered to twelve techniques of written expression module teachers' in the department of english at Larbi Ben M'Hidi university. The students' questionnaire has been given to fifty third year (from seventy-five) LMD students of the literary stream at the same department. Both questionnaires were given during the academic year 2012-2013. Following the results' discussion of the two questionnaires we found that the majority of teachers claimed that most of their students face difficulties when using capitalization. Similarly, the best part of the students stated that they face difficulties when they use capital letters.
