Abstract
This study investigates one of the major problematic issues in the domain of english as a second language. It primarily aims to investigate the role of discourse awareness in enhancing EFL learners' critical thinking. That is, the concept of critical thinking must be given faire boundaries within the language learning because reflection of thought needs language itself. Therefore, the stress is made on discourse awareness in educational settings, by shedding light on its importance in establishing a common ground for both learners and teachers. Two main hypotheses were formulated. The first hypothesis stated that the teachers would exhibit a positive understanding of discourse awareness. The second hypothesis is that the authentic situation is completely the opposite. In an attempt to test these hypotheses, a teachers' questionnaire was designed and classroom observation was conducted. The results from the teachers' questionnaire largely confirm the first hypothesis; however, the results obtained from the classroom observation confirm the second hypothesis.
