Abstract
Caesarean section is an obstetrical procedure that saves the mother and child when a problem prevents the natural course of childbirth. Our retrospective descriptive study focused on 1,400 cases of cesarean sections carried out at the gynecological obstetrics department of the Sliman Amirat maternity ward in Oum EL Bouaghi from May 1 to 31, 2024, with the objectives of determining the frequency of cesarean section and specifying the indications. responsible for the increase in the rate of prophylactic and emergency cesarean sections. It appears from our study that: The cesarean section rate is 38.91% out of 1400 cases of women undergoing cesareans. Caesarean parturients aged between 30 and 39 years are represented at 49.21%. Pauci-parous people have a rate of 53.79%. Most of our patients are operated on in the gestational term with a rate of 78.70%. The most common indication for prophylactic cesarean section is scarred uterus with a rate of 55.78%; for emergency cesarean section it is acute fetal suffering with 35.29%. Indications for cesarean sections must be carefully considered because cesarean section does not only have advantages for both mothers and newborns. Much effort remains to be made to refine the indication for cesarean section.
