Abstract
This paperpresentsresultsoftestsconductedonthinweldedrectangularsteelstubs filled withconcrete
that gravelwassubstitutedby10mmcrushedcrystallizedslagstone.Thestudiedsectionwasmadeof
two coldsteelplateswithUshapeandweldedwithelectricarctoformasteelboxsection.Thecross-
section dimensionswere:100 70 2 mm3. themainstudiedparameterswerethestubheight(200,
300,400,500mm),theeffectofthein filled concrete,thecontinuedweldandtheeccentricforce.The
tests werecarriedout28daysafterthedateofcasting.Atotalof20stubsweretestedina50tfmachine
up tofailure,4stubssubjectedtoaxialloadcompressionand16stubssubjectedtoeccentricload
compression alongtheminorandmajorrigidityaxis.Theaimofthestudyistoprovidesomeevidences
that theuseofcrushedslagcouldbeintegratedinthemanufacturingofnon-conventionalconcrete.All
failure loadswerepredictedbyusingtheEurocode4andthedesignmethodproposedbyZ.VrceljandB.
Uy.Fromtestresults,itwasconfirmed thatthelengthofstubsandtheeccentricloadhadadrasticeffect
on theloadcarryingcapacity.Thefailuremodeofcompositestubswasalocalbucklingmodewithall
steel sidesdeformedoutwards.TheEurocode4loadspredictionsweregenerallyingoodagreement
compared withexperimentalloadsandonsafeside.Theloadsresultsofdesignmethodproposedby
Vrcelj andB.Uyweregenerallyonsafesidecomparedwithexperimentalloadexceptthecolumns
subject toeccentricloadwith400mmand500mmheight
