Cancer is ranked as the second-highest cause of death and accounts for about 10 million death in 2020. Cancers may be caused in one of three ways, namely incorrect diet, genetic predisposition, and via the environment. Based on the severe negative effects, chemo-resistance, high expenditure and scarcity of novel anticancer compounds, anticancer drug discovery is now more inclined to th investigation of natural sources.. Natural drugs are accepted as a safer option than synthetic drugs because of their presence in the human diet and broad availability. Furthermore, natural drugs have reduced side effects and the potential to target various tumorigenesis-related signaling pathways. Essential oils and phenolic compounds are the most common molecules that are incorporated into our diet abundantly. Their complex molecular structures are related to biological functions in the human body. Natural products are extensively studied for their anticancer activities, along with other biological functions. This introductory work presents to explore the relationship between natural products and cancer. Then, we will detail some experimental work on essential oils and phenolic compounds of plant species belong to three families (apiaceae, lamiaceae and euphorbiaceae) from Algerian flora.
