Abstract
Along with the development of language teaching methodologies and approaches, vocabulary has become an important element in the foreign language teaching and learning. Therefore, english as a foreign language teachers have to develop effective strategies so that to encourage learners develop their capacities in the target language. Basically, the current research aims at investigating the effect of pair-work as an interactive strategy on the development of vocabulary learning. In order to fulfil the aim of this study, third year middle school pupils at Ibn Rochd middle school were selected as the target population. Two groups of seventy three out of one hundred and thirteen pupils were divided as the experimental and control groups. Both groups were pre-tested, and performed the planned tasks for the study period. The experimental group received the treatment; that is to say, learners in the experimental group performed the tasks in pairs, while the ones in the control group worked individually. At the end of the study, the post-test; including the same exercises as the pre-test, was distributed for learners in the two groups. The findings demonstrated that pair-work was insignificantly effective on improving learners' vocabulary. Finally, it can be stated that this strategy will have considerable results if it is applied at higher level such as upper-intermediate.
