The present study aims at examining the effectiveness of intensive reading when it is implemented with classroom instruction on enhancing the students' use of conjunctive cohesion in writing of second-year students ofenglish at Larbi Ben M'Hidi university at Oum-El-Bouaghi. To fulfil the purpose of this study, a quasi-experimental research design was conducted. Two pre-existing groups of students were randomly assigned as experimental and control groups. The experimental group received some intensive readings, on the other hand, subjects in the control group did not receive any readings. Instead, they relied only on classroom instruction. After the treatment, a post-test was administered. The results of both a paired-samples t-test and an independent-samples t-test indicated that the group provided by intensive readings was the most to show improvements, indicating that intensive reading was a significant factor in enhancing students' use of conjunctive cohesion in writing. In addition, students enjoyed reading. Finally, it was concluded that it is entirely possible that intensive reading may have a significant or an effective role on enhancing the appropriate use of conjunctive cohesion in writing in the target language.ar
