Abstract
Lack of partcipation seems to be one of the most common problems among learners of english as a foreigh language.Participation helps students to develop their speaking and critical thinking abilities .Eventually, the présent research aims at exploring teacher's and student's towards" ol play" and its effectiveness in promoting classroom participation .So, it is hypothesized that implementing role plays in the right conditions will result inpromoting classroom participation and therefore speaking proficiency level.To test the research hypothesis, tow quetionnaires are administrated to second year LMD students and oral expréssion teacher's at the english départment, Larbi Ben M'Hidi university, the findings show that rol play is not éffectively implémented in forign language classes, consequently, setting up éffective objectives, dealing with exciting topiics, providing student's with the necessary guidance and rewarding plays are among the right conditions for achieving an effective implémentation of the role play.
