| dc.description.abstract | The present study is concerned with the challenge of having shy students speak up in an EFL classroom. It claims to investigate the teaching techniques used to help shy students engage in class activities and the students' attitudes towards the strategies used or their effectiveness. A mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) is used to conduct data analysis. It combines two questionnaires addressed to a group of third-year students and their teachers of oral expression sessions (COE). For the sake of gathering more reliable data about the discussed issue in this study, we have opted for classroom observation relying on a checklist. The results were analyzed statistically using pie charts and tables for more clarification. It was concluded that most of the students in the department of English at Larbi Ben M'hidi University are shy during class discussions. Besides, teachers of COE give all the students the opportunity to speak freely, and most of them use different strategies to integrate shy students' classroom interaction (CI). As a conclusion, the use of appropriate techniques to integrate shy students into CI helps them express their ideas and thoughts freely during class discussions. | ar |
