Abstract
Testing is the most important means to evaluate students' academic achievements. However, some english students find the task of taking exams hard and difficult, especially when they fail or cannot retrieve back what they have learnt in order to answer the exam questions. The current study aims at exploring and finding out the relationship between tests anxiety as a psychological factor on the students' retrieval capacity. For the sake of checking the correlation between the two variables, we hypothesized that if the english students are highly anxious in tests, their retrieval capacity will be negatively affected. We approach this subject by the aid of using a descriptive method. Thus, we have administered a questionnaire plus a test anxiety scale to students from the english department at Laarbi Ben M'Hidi universiy, Oum-El-Bouaghi. We have verified the reliability and the validity of both methods via using the SPSS software, and our hypothesis was confirmed. The students' questionnaire was given to twenty five first year LMD student during the academic year 2013-2014, in order to investigate their attitudes towards tests anxiety and its' impact on their memories and enhance their study skills and try to reduce their anxiety. The interpretation and the discussion of the obtained results confirmed the previously stated hypothesis that tests anxiety affects the retrieval capacity negatively.
