dc.description.abstractCulture is an umbrella term that includes different aspects, language is one of these aspects. In order to understand the language, one needs to understand its culture. The present research attempts to evaluate the way culture is introduced in the Algerian middle school, in particular the first-year textbooks Spotlight on English and My Book of English. The overall aim of the present research is to analyze the cultural components covered in Spotlight on English and My Book of English textbooks which were used in the Algerian middle school, first year level. The study is conducted through an analytical approach based on qualitative and quantitative data using kilickaya's checklist to evaluate the textbooks in terms of adequacy and suitability of cultural information presented. Though the analysis showed that culture was embedded in the textbooks (various aspects were covered, namely social organization, language, customs and traditions, art and literature), there was a huge neglect of the following aspects: religion and economic systems.In conclusion, the researchers suggest thata foreign language textbook must necessarily take into account that the learner must be prepared to the broad foreign world and respect other's culture. As well as, not neglecting the importance of intercultural awareness during the process of learning a foreign language.ar
