This introductory course is designed primarily for first-year Science and Technology (ST) students, but is also suitable for anyone seeking a basic understanding of thermodynamics. To promote effective learning, the course is structured into six chapters. Each chapter presents key concepts followed by practice exercises with detailed solutions. Throughout this course, we will delve into the following fundamental concepts: System and surroundings, thermodynamic properties (temperature (T), pressure (P), volume (V), internal energy (U), enthalpy (H), and entropy (S)), the laws of thermodynamics (zero law, first law, second law and third law), thermodynamic processes (isothermal, adiabatic, isobaric and isochoric processes) and finally thermodynamic cycles. The content is based on a comprehensive review of textbooks and online resources, some of which are listed in the bibliography.
