British and algerian authors's utilization of transations and frame markers

Abstract
The present study aims to identify transitions and frame markers (FMs) in the literature review section of research articles written by British native researchers and Algerian non native researchers in terms of functions and structure. To this end, the current study analyzes a corpus of 40 published research articles in the academic fields of applied linguistics , and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). (20) RAs written by British researchers and (20) RAs written by Algerian researchers served as the corpus of the study.The research articles were selected from well-known journals and published between ( 2014 – 2022). The study in hand is a comparative investigation that makes use of the AntConc Concordance Software. relying on Hyland's (2005) model in order to comparethe frequency, structures, and the functions of the transitions and frame markers used by Algerian researchers on one hand, and native British researchers on the other hand. The findings showed a statistically significant difference between native and non native literature review sections with respect to both frequency and form of the employed transitions and frame markers.The interpretation of the results shows that transitions markers are used more than the frame markers, it was found that transitions were the highly frequent markers in the whole corpora. Compared with the British researchers, the Algerian researchers were found to use both transitions and frame markers more than the British researchers. The Algerian researchers used all the types more frequently than the British authors. On the basis of the findings pedagogical implications were discussed, limitations of the study as well as recommendations for future research were proposed.
