Abstract
Teaching and learning has shifted from teacher to learner-geared approach that focuses on the learner as the main part of the classroom. Autonomous learning is a learning model which is important in english language learning. Thus, teachers have to implement learning strategies and methods effectively to help students develop their self-autonomy in the target language learning. Importantly, the current research is a descriptive study that aims at investigating EFL teachers' and first year master students' attitudes towards the effect of PBL strategy on learners' self-autonomy. Throughout this study, it is hypothesized first that EFL students will have positive attitudes towards the effect of project-based learning on students' self-autonomy. Second, EFL teachers will have positive attitudes towards the effect of project-based learning on students' self-autonomy. In order to fulfill the aim of this study, EFL teachers and students of master one level were selected to represent the sample for answering the questionnaires. The findings of students' and teachers' questionnaires demonstrated that most of teachers and students shared an agreement about the significance of utilizing the PBL strategy in enhancing learners' self-autonomy. Finally, based on the results obtained from the study, it can be stated that this strategy is effective for developing learners' active self-directed learning.
