Abstract
This research investigates the effect of group work technique on english as foreign language learners' speaking anxiety. For fulfilling the purpose of this study, a quasi-experimental research was conducted to third year students literary streams at El-Cheikh Mubarak El-Mili secondary school, Ain Babouche. Participants were assigned to two groups of 30, a control and an experimental group. Then, we measured their levels of speaking anxiety in the pre-test using the Public Speaking Anxiety Scale. The experimental group was taught using Group Work Technique, whereas the control group was taught using the conventional way which depends on the teacher's instructions and the textbook. After the treatment period, a post-test was administered to both groups to determine the influence of the treatment on the experimental group. The results indicated that Group Work Technique was more effective in lowering the levels of speaking anxiety than the conventional way of teaching. Therefore, the present study suggests that group work technique is efficient in reducing english as foreign language learners' speaking anxiety.
