Abstract
This study examines the representation of cultural aspects, both big C and small C, that are portrayed in the new primary textbook "My Book of English", and attempts to analyze which identity options are highly addressed in the textbook. A qualitative approach was employed, and data were analysed through the use of an adopted checklist of Merrouche's framework. The findings revealed that there is a high representation of the source culture and identity options of the Algerian learners, including gender, occupation, ethnicity, religion, and nationality. In addition, it lacks a larger picture of the native speaker's culture and identity norms. The textbook covers only a few components of other people's cultures and their identities, with no mention of international culture. As a result, based on the textbook evaluation findings, it is suggested that English textbooks ought to incorporate an expanded range of mainstream English cultures and facets of identity constructs to increase learners' awareness and communication proficiency.
