The protective effect of negella sativa extract against aluminum chloride-induced renal damage in male adult rabbit

dc.description.abstractAluminum is a metal toxin that has been implicated in the etiology of a number of diseases. Therefore, the present study was carried out to investigate the protective effects of Negella Sativa (NS) against the toxicity of Aluminum Chloride (ALC13) that induced renal damage in adult male rabbit. Sixteen adult male rabbits weighting 2.5-3.5 kg aged 24-26 weeks old were randomly and equally divided into four groups, four per each; first group received distilled water and taken as control, second group received 25 mg/kg/day of ALC13 orally as a single dose for 30 days; third group received orally 200 mg/kg/day of the extract of Negella Sativa seeds; the last group received a combination of ALC13 and NS extract on the same previous doses for 30 days. Blood was collected for the assessment of serum levels of urea, creatinine and uric acid, while kidney tissue was used for histopathological assessment. Serum levels of creatinine, urea and uric acid were increased in animals treated with ALC13 as compared to control. The histological examination for the kidney sections revealed marked Histopathological alterations. Combined treatment of ALC13 exposed animals with N.sativa showed marked improvement in both biochemical and histopathological findings
