Abstract
Language is a means of human communication; deciding about the language that will be used in a particular community is of high importance. Because to plan a language is to plan an entire society since language planning refers to the decisions taken by the government and society about what language to use. The study at hand aimed at identifying parents' and university teachers' attitudes towards the re- implementation of English teaching at primary schools of Algeria. As well as looking for the reasons shaping their attitudes. To fulfill the aim of the present research, a descriptive study was adopted through designing two questionnaires; one for 67 parents whose children are pupils at Azzab Lakhal and the other for 20 university teachers of English at Larbi Ben M'Hidi University. The analysis of the findings demonstrated positive attitudes of both parents and teachers towards re- introducing English at the level of primary schools, associating their attitudes with the international status of English and its benefits in developing countries, getting access to new technologies, and many other reasons, while some parents preferred it because it is historically neutral. Based on the results obtained from analyzing both questionnaires and the literature review of the study, a number of recommendations are offered in an attempt to reconsidering the language policy followed and enlightening the teaching /learning situation.
