Abstract
It has been noticed that some students are suffering from the lack of motivation to show their personal competences. The present research tackles the issue of raising the students intrinsic motivation through the use of rewards in EFL classrooms. More specifically, it seeks to examine the learners' and teachers' attitudes towards the use of rewards. In order to confirm or disconfirm the validity of our hypothesis, two questionnaires have been administered as a means of research to gather the necessary information: one for the english teachers and one for the second year LMD students at Larbi Ben M'Hidi university. The analysis of the questionnaires reveals that both teachers and students are aware about the crucial role of rewards in raising the students' intrinsic motivation. In the light of these results, our hypothesis comes to be almost validated by the findings obtained from the teachers' and students' questionnaires. Hence, the present researsh suggests a number of pedagogical implications and recommendations for EFL teachers about the importance of providing rewards in EFL classes.
