It was acknowledged that the words are the building blocks of a language, in which the meaning cannot be conveyed without words. To put it forward, vocabulary is of great importance to foreign language learners and these learners suffer from insufficient word knowledge. Vocabulary learning is seen by both English language teachers and learners as a challenging task. Therefore, teachers should encourage the learners to learn new vocabulary items by adopting a helpful strategy. Interestingly, the main aim of this research work is to examine the effect of using vocabulary notebooks on enhancing pupils' vocabulary learning. It endeavors to answer the following question: does using vocabulary notebooks in foreign language classes enhance students' vocabulary learning and enrich their vocabulary knowledge? In order to respond to this question, an experimental method with a quasi-experimental design was followed. The study took place at Tourech ElTouhami Middle school, Ouled Hamla with third year pupils. The participants of this study were 42 pupils and they were divided into two groups: control and experimental group. In the first session, pupils in both groups were pre-tested through four different vocabulary tasks to check their present vocabulary knowledge. Then, the experimental group received vocabulary lessons over four sessions and they used vocabulary notebooks to list new vocabulary items. However, the control group was taught vocabulary via the ordinary method employed by their teacher. After the period of treatment, the post-test was administered to both groups to observe their vocabulary learning. By the end of the experiment and after analyzing the data obtained from pre and post-tests, the results showed that there is no significant improvement in the experimental group. It was noticed that using vocabulary notebooks did not help much the learners to build and strengthen their vocabulary base.ar
