dc.description.abstract | The present study aims at examining the influence of extroversion-introversion continuum onlearners’ verbal tendencies and interactive behaviours. The study was conducted in the english department, Oum-El-Bouaghi university. It involved eighty participants. Therelevant data were collected in two steps. First, students were given a personality inventory test, so that their personalities could be identified. After the test results were obtained, tenextroverted and ten introverted students were chosen for the rest of the study. In the secondstep, subjects were asked to participate in a speaking task. The data collected from thespeaking task was first transcribed and then analyzed according to the categories established as interactional behaviours and speech production. The results showed that students withextroversion and introversion tendencies differed in terms of the way they communicate inL2. While extroverts inclined to start most of the conversations, introduce new topics to thespeech and make restatements, introverts tended to ask questions. With respect to speechproduction, extroverts were found to produce longer sentences, employ more filled pauses and self-corrected utterances. Therefore, students with extroversion tendencies have more efficientcommunication than the ones with introversion tendencies, i.e., extroverted studentscommunicate better than introverted ones. | ar |
