Abstract
Étudier le massif central de la Grande Kabylie, c’est étudier une région dont le peuplement remonte à plusieurs millénaires.
Ce territoire est fortement peuplé et parsemé le long des lignes de crêtes et à flanc de montagne d’une multitude de villages, 1400 selon certaines estimations. Cet équilibre fût
longtemps jalousement préservé par la population locale, jusqu’à l’arrivée de la colonisation française. La création du Fort Napoléon qui deviendra Fort National sur le site du Souk Larbaa aura les effets d’un cataclysme pour la région et signera le début d’un nouveau modèle d’urbanisation.
A l’indépendance, fort national deviendra Larbaa Nath Irathen elle connaitra une extension importante, Nous tenterons à travers ce travail, de montrer les différentes étapes de son évolution en signalant les moments de ruptures qui ont conduit à la création et développement de ce cas unique d’une petite ville en haute montagne de grande Kabylie.
Nous tenterons de la situer actuellement au sein de l’armature urbaine de la wilaya de Tizi Ouzou dont elle dépend administrativement, car il s’agit, à travers ce cas précis de Larbaa Nath Irathen, d’étudier d’une manière générale l’impact des petites villes de
montagne dans le mouvement d’urbanisation de cette zone de la Kabylie.

This work introduces a deep study of the central massif of Kabylie, a region whose people settled several millennia ago. This region is highly populated and dotted along the ridge lines and on the mountain side of a multitude of villages, 1400 according to some estimates. This balance was preserved by the local population for long time, until the arrival of French colonization.
The creation of Fort Napoleon, which will become Fort National on the site of Souk Larbaa, will have the effects of a cataclysm for the region and will mark the beginning of a new model of urbanization.
After independence, Fort National is renamed as Larbaa Nath Irathen. It underwent tremendous changes. We will try through this work, to underline the different stages of the evolution of this region, by highlighting the breakthrough moments of the creation and development of this unique case of a small town in the high mountains of Kabylie. We will try to localize it within the urban framework of the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou on which it depends administratively. Through this very specific example of Larbaa Nath Irathen, this research project aims at studying the impact of small mountain towns in
the urbanization movement of the Kabylie’s area.
