Abstract
Communication is one of the most significant design issues for multi-UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) systems, as it is essential for UAVs' cooperation and collaboration. The infrastructure can facilitate communication between UAVs if each one is directly linked to it, such as through a satellite or a ground station. However, the capabilities of multi-UAV systems are limited by this infrastructure-based communication design. The issues arising from entirely infrastructure-based UAV networks can be resolved by ad hoc networking between UAVs. FANETs have emerged as a viable option for a variety of unmanned aerial system applications. For instance, FANETs might be utilized for search and rescue operations or urban monitoring. These networks, however, have unique communication issues along with a wide range of specialized features. Consequently, many research projects use network simulation to examine their performance. Simulating data transmission via the FANET network is the aim of our work. In particular, this work starts with a review of the basics of wireless and ad-hoc networks. Next, we explore FANETs, including their architecture, characteristics, design considerations, communication, applications, and routing protocols. Furthermore, we describe the simulation approaches, focusing on the NS-2 simulator for data transmission modeling in FANETs, and includes Ubuntu installation (dual boot with Windows 10). Lastly, we go into great length about the suggested data transmission paradigm in FANETs, including its design, implementation, and performance assessment .
