Abstract
This researchstudyaims to delveinto the variousfactorsthat drive and motivatestudentsstudying English as a ForeignLanguage (EFL) to place a strongemphasis on theiracademic grades. The studysample comprises a total of 79 studentsenrolled in the English department at Larbi Ben M'hidi University, encompassingstudentsfrom the first, second, and thirdyear classes. Employing a quantitative researchapproach, the studyemploysrandom sampling techniques to ensure a representativesample of participants. To gather the necessary data, a comprehensive questionnaire wasadministered to the selected participants. The questionnaire consists of 25 items comprisingstatementsthat explore the students' perceptions, attitudes, and motivations towardsprioritizingtheir grades in the process of learning English. The participants wereasked to rate theirlevel of agreement or disagreementwitheachstatement, providingvaluable insights into the factorsinfluencingtheir focus on grades. This researchstudy sheds light on the multifacetedfactorsthat influence EFL students' motivation to prioritizetheir grades. By comprehensivelyexamining the interplay of extrinsic and intrinsicmotivators, the studyprovidesvaluable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers in fostering a healthylearningenvironmentthatenhancestudent motivation, engagement, and success in English languagelearning.
