It is considered as the body that makes up a language. It allows us to say what we mean and use the language effectively. However, students find difficulties when they come to express themselves. Hence, EFL teachers adapt and adopt different methods and techniques that help student to enlarge their vocabulary knowledge, among them; dictation. The present study aims at describing and investigating teachers' and students' perspectives towards the use of dictation as a useful technique to enhance students' vocabulary knowledge. In order to check this correlation, we have hypothesized that dictation would be considered as a significant technique for acquiring English Language vocabulary. This study is composed of two questionnaires, one of them was handed to twenty (20) teachers at the english department at Larbi Ben M'Hidi university in Oum-El-Bouaghi in order to identify their insights about the technique used in teaching vocabulary as well as their perspectives towards the use of dictation to enrich vocabulary knowledge, while the other questionnaire was distributed to thirty (30) first year English students from the english department at Larbi Ben M'Hidi university in Oum-El-Bouaghi in order to examine their perspectives about the use of dictation in increasing their vocabulary knowledge .The discussion of the results validated the stated hypothesis that using dictation enrich students' knowledge of vocabulary .
