Barack Obama(Oum-El-Bouaghi, 2020) Chennouf, Aymen; Menadjlia, Imad; Merah, FahimaImmigration has always been a matter of discussion in the United States, especially in the last twenty years when various American presidents showed more concern on reforming the immigration system due to the 9/11 attacks. This research aims at discussing anti-immigration laws, acts and attitudes of two American presidents during the 21st century, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, to see to what extent each one of them tried to decrease the number of immigrants in the United States and to comprehend the reasons behind the high number of deportations and the costs of their acts. The focus of the study will be on how Bush was more famous for being harsh on immigrants than president Obama even though Obama's deportation numbers were higher and his decisions were more effective concerning illegal immigration. Using a comparative method, this study analyzes the anti-immigration laws that were passed during the presidential periods of both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama from 2001 to 2016, and compares between the deportation numbers and the characteristics of each one of them. The results show that there were many factors that contributed in making Obama have more deportation numbers than Bush mainly the massive support from Congress and both media and public opinion. Financial support also contributed to the remarkable difference in their Anti-immigration strategies. Unlike Obama, Bush had a historical opportunity to represent his anti-immigration thoughts following the 9/11 attacks.Item Modern slavery in the land of democracy(Oum-El-Bouaghi, 2020) Guergah, Kods; Bellili, Nousseiba; Merah, FahimaUrban thermal comfort is one of the most important criteria to take into account in urban planning. Unfortunately, this thermal comfort in urban outdoor spaces is not always guaranteed due to several factors such as climate change and temperature rise due to both human activities and the geological nature of the Guelma region. These factors ended up creating what is called the urban heat island phenomenon which negatively affects the natural environment and human health. Several countries have adopted different techniques to end this problem while simultaneously wanting to reduce heat and provide cool air through, in general, the creation of green and blue spaces. However, the latter are not suitable for different climatic families because they contribute to the increase in the humidity level of the area. In this case, the geothermal energy which characterizes the city of Hammam Debagh, presents a sustainable and promising solution to provide urban thermal comfort without modifying its parameters.Item Populism and democracy(Université De Larbi Ben M’hidi Oum EL Bouaghi, 2022) Abed, Shaima; Merah, Fahimalong as politics In 2017, the Cambridge Dictionary announced the word 'populism' as "Word of the Year". In the political stage, populism is by no means a new concept. It has existed as did. Notwithstanding, an attempt to make a general definition of the term is often problematic. In practice and in theory, repeatedly, populist arguments stress the idea that liberalism detached democracy from its essence that rests on making the people rule to realize their general will. A direct target for populist criticism is political elites, immigrants, multilateral institutions. The election of Donald Trump in 2016 marked the backlash of populism into the American political table. Perhaps, for the casual observer, it might seem that Trump vision of politics is one that aims at increasing political participation by giving voices to previously silenced sections of the society. However, in assuming this task, the new incumbent of the white house showed no reluctance in violating foundational principles that governed political actions of the country. By way of illustration, he initiated executive orders that directly discriminated religious and ethnic minorities. Moreover, Donald Trump aggressively attacked legalistic institutions like media and bureaucracy. Furthermore, he was able to circumvent major democratic pillars as important as constitutional checks and balances. Initially, this research aimed to identify how populism is related to democracy and how it is realized in the American political arena during the presidency of Donald Trump. Based on a descriptive and interpretative analysis, it can be concluded that Donald Trump had a limited negative effect on U.S. democracy. Rhetorically, he was able to undermine many democratic norms. However, practically, Donald Trump could not unlock the strength of democratic institutions of the United States.Item The Fourth estate's coverage and its relation with the U.S Army(Université Oum El Bouaghi, 2021) Hamel, Ahlem; Merah, FahimaThis research work examines the relation between the United States of America military and the fourth estate before and during the 2003 war on Iraq. It is an attempt to clarify the immense role of media in shaping the public opinion, both the domestic and the international one, in a way that serves to polish the picture of the U.S. in an innocent way leading to the demonization of Iraq to be seen as an enemy. The U.S. foreign policy during the early days of the war needed to be justified, and to attain the goal of removing the Iraqi president Saddam Hussein from power; due to the fact that he was suspected as responsible for the 9/11 attacks, related to the members of Al-Qaeda, and aware of the weapons of mass destructionItem The Impact of chinese trade expansionism on the American economic power in the African markets after the cold war(Université De Larbi Ben M’hidi Oum EL Bouaghi, 2022) Soltani, Fatima; Merah, Fahimahis research work investigates the impacts of China's Economic Expansion in Africa After the Cold War, its causes, results, and repercussions on the American trade transactions with the region. It aims to understand the policies adopted by China to penetrate the African markets, and exhibits the main reforms embraced by it to raise its economic development. It clarifies the hidden geopolitical objectives of its wide investments, and why China has chosen Africa as new markets and foreign partner. It also sheds the light on the American -African ties that emphasize more on security and stability issues, and less on trade. African countries ambitions to join and integrate the globalized world led its leaders to think of reestablishing new strategies appropriate to its natural and human resources. African leaders' future objective is to end up the economic dependency to the western world and create a solid economic basis through promoting intra-trade partnership, confronting internal and external challenges and going on sustained economic growth project.Item The Impact of Trump’s foreign policy on the American economy: the U.S.China trade war(University of Oum El Bouaghi, 2023) Bechoua, Isra; Merah, FahimaAfter fighting all the odds in the presidential elections of 2016, businessman Donald Trump became the forty-five presidents of the U.S. His campaign was littered with slogans that interpret his intentions "to make America great again". Trump introduced his foreign policy agenda, which was hinged on implementing tariffs, changing the U.S. international commitments, from renegotiating to withdrawing, and reshaping relations with different countries, including China and Mexico. Furthermore, Trump started a trade war with China in order to create access to foreign markets for American companies and limit China's economic growth which represents a threat to the U.S. position as a global power. Consequently, his aggressive foreign policy approach led to some serious consequences on American economy. Trump's protectionist approach harmed American businesses, which relied on exports, and decreased the foreign investments in the U.S. However, the Gross Domestic Product witnessed a noticeable growth alongside the historical decrease of the unemployment rate.Item The relationship between the sinkning of RMS titanic and the foundation of the federal reserve system in light of the conspiracy theory(Université De Larbi Ben M’hidi Oum EL Bouaghi, 2022) Dib, Manar; Abdani, Hadjer; Merah, FahimaThe incident of Titanic was and still one of the most famous disasters in the world. This mémoireis intended to look closely at the extent to which new media were used to fight back the Syrian archaic regime and pressure the international policymaking process. Although new media are mainly perceived as tools for social interaction, they have played a substantial role in globalizing the Syrian Crisis and reshaping US stance towards it. Social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Blogs served as tools for organizing and generating awareness for political mobilization.
