It examines Diana Abu - Jabber's representation of culture and identity in the american Society. This work, too, analyses the use of a recurrent theme in the book which is food. It presents a rich depiction of food in Diana's family and how it creates a kind of unity within it. Food, here, can be described as a symbol of unity and roots. Though Diana's family is unified and sticks to its origin , it has faced a lot of problems related to culture .Diana is persistently torn between her Jordanian and american identities .Finally, she accepts and adopts the american identity.
