Item In vitro study of neuroprotective activity of tamarix africana seeds extracts.(University of Oum El Bouaghi, 2021-12-13) Trad, Khodja; Esma, Anissa; Khabtane, Abd El Hamid; Arehab, Rabah; Benbott, AmelTamarix Africana belongs to the Tamaricaceae family, there are more than 60 kinds of halophyte plants. Thisplantis commonly used in traditional Algerian medicine to treat many health problems.Enzyme inhibition is a common and important method for discovery of new drugs and treatment of human public disorders. There are several enzymes whose inhibition are considered a target for the treatment or prevention of related diseases, including cholinesterase' s (Alzheimer's disease). Due to the increasing attention in the valorization of endemic plants to support their use in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industry, the methanol and n-butanol extracts of seeds from Tamarix Africanawere investigated in neuroprotective activity. The air-dried powdered seedswere macerated in methanol (80%). After that the crude methanolic extract was fractionated using different solvents with increased polarities starting with ethyl-acetate followed by n-butanol. The methanolic and n-butanol extracts were taken to evaluate their neuroprotective effects using microplate method. As result, this plant extracts disclosed a potential activity against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and buthyrylcholinesterase (BChE) using galantamine as standards, Consequently, the methanolic extract showed (IC5=44.38±1.87μg/ml) against (AChE) and a (IC50 = 18.60±1.09 μg/ml) against (BChE). On the other hand, the n-butanol fraction showed a (ICs 187.47±2.99 μg/ml) against (AChE) and a (IC-48.31±1.78 μg/ml) against (BChE). Plant extracts are being used to meet needs and overcome the challenges of finding and developing more reliable therapeutic substances with Minimal adverse effect.
