(University of Oum El Bouaghi, 2021-12-13) Mokrani, Meryem; Zellagui, Amar; Hadjeb, Wided; Bensouici, Chawki
Propolis is a resinous substance produced by honeybees that possesses many biological activities, such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory. In this study, we aimed to determine the antioxidant and antifungal activity of ethanolic extract of propolisagainst the opportunistic pathogen fungus Candida albicans. The antioxidant properties were assayed using DPPH assay. The results showed that propolisethanolic extract exhibited strongDPPH radical scavengingassaywith IC50 value of6,97±0,17 μg/mL.The evaluation of antifungal activity by disc diffusion methods revealed the capability of propolis to inhibit Candida albicanswith zone of inhibition diameter19,33±0,94mm. This study, therefore, indicated that propolis is a potential antioxidant and its possible use in the treatment of fungal infections
