Also, muslims are seen as anti americanism andanti modernism that prefer confrontation rather than dialogue. Moreover, the american policytowards muslim countries is based upon this misunderstanding. Though, this perception isrooted in the american history but it has strongly appeared in the post cold war era in search for a new enemy after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Dicey's writings has long been recognised as the cornerstone of the UK constitution. The Orthodox view argues that no other entity has the authority to invalidate the UK Parliament's unrestricted ability to make laws. However, as the political environment changed, the ideology fell under pressure and a number of challenges occurred and continue to get more serious over time. In this context, the focus of this thesis is to deal with the doctrine of sovereignty between theory and practice. It sheds the light on one major challenge to the Sovereignty of Westminster that is devolution. Indeed, Devolution challenges the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty in several ways, including the creation of devolved institutions with legislative and executive powers, limitations on the UK Parliament's legislative powers, and the establishment of new constitutional conventions. These developments raised questions about the continuing relevance of the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty in the UK's constitutional system. Despite these challenges, this research work contends that though the traditional doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty remains the theoretical doctrine of the British Constitution, devolution does actually threaten the sovereignty of the Westminster parliament.Item Choosing national icons as presidential candidates(University of Oum El Bouaghi, 2024) Marouf, Ouided; Ghennam, FatimaThis master dissertation argues that American political parties choose national icons in order to win presidential election. These parties often prioritize charisma, popularity, and the ability to win a broad coalition of people, rather than political acumen and competency. It examines the cases of Andrew Jackson, Ulysses S. Grant, and Donald Trump who garnered significant support despite having no prior political experience. Through deeply analyzing these cases, this research work attempts to pinpoint the essential factors that affect the selection of presidential candidates who might not have the training or experience necessary to properly lead the country. By analyzing the relationship between political parties, voters, and the media, this research seeks to highlight the way by which political parties manage to balance the requirement to choose a candidate who is not qualified to lead the country with the need to appeal to a broad spectrum of people. In the end, by expanding the knowledge of the factors influencing the selection of presidential candidates and the process of holding presidential elections, this research aims to advance future decision-making that is more informed and effective. The results of this dissertation spotlight the real and most prominent variables that affect the choice of selecting nominees for the American presidential election. In order to prove that the Constitution of Medina is the oldest and the shortest written constitution, we have first to prove that it is a constitution by arguing that it is neither a charter nor a proclamation. In the other side, we find the Western model is the principal source for legislation in the arabic and Islamic world. In fact, the constitution of the United States is presented as the oldest and the shortest written constitution in the world. In front of this, we see that an analytical and a comparative study between the two constitutions is necessary to extract the reasons that made the american constitution an example to be followed. Furthermore, we attempt to demonstrate the existence of some Islamic roots in the american constitution The theory of deconstruction was applied on both the constitution of medina and the american constitution to reveal some of the tribal features in the Medinian pluralistic society, and to cover the ambiguity in some articles of the US constitution. Additionally, we attempt to project the "Chaos Theory" using the simple and the double pendulums on the notions of democracy and deconstruction in order to identify the referring point in both: the islamic and the american political systems.Item Containment as political imperialism the first indochina war(university of Oum-El-Bouaghi, 2014) Benkhellaf, Zhour; Ghennam, FatimaAs a result of the increased cold war threat of communism, the united states of America changed its national security strategy. This strategy is known as containment policy that was introduced and formulated by the american diplomat George F. Kennan through his long telegram and article 'X'. In his works, Kennan, outlined the main aim from this new foreign policy that is to contain the spread of communism in the world. The containment policy was adopted by successive american presidents among them Harry Truman along his presidency from 1945 till 1953. Indeed, containment as a strategy shaped most of Truman's policies of intervention in european, Asian and the middle east countries. In fact, The first Indochina war was Truman's first attempt to implement containment between 1946 and 1954 under the name of promoting peace and democracy all over the world. The present dissertation, then, examines the real imperial aim from this policy of containment. This work contends that American foreign policy of containment; 1945-1953 under the presidency of Truman is purely a Political imperial strategy that seeks to accomplish self political, economic and military security interests all over the world.Item Euroscepticism in the UK(university of Oum-El-Bouaghi, 2015) Rouhani, Amel; Ghennam, FatimaThis dissertation examines the issue of euroscepticism in the UK, particularly the current british prime minister David Cameron's attitudes towards the European Union (EU). The UK had always a difficult relationship with the EU that led it to be considered a Eurosceptic country. British Euroscepticism had a multifaceted nature that contributed to its longevity in the UK. It had a great impact on british politics in general and the Conservative Party in particular. The latter had always a special relationship with the EU as well as ambivalent attitudes towards Britain's European integration. Recently, the question re-emerged with Cameron's speech calling for an In/Out referendum on Britain's continued membership in the EU. Thus, the Prime Minister gave another re-birth of british euroscepticism. Cameron's attitudes and policies towards the EU can be deduced through the analysis of some of his selected speeches. Those speeches show that Cameron's attitudes are a product of: being a soft-Eurosceptic that supports the EU as long as it serves the british interests, his Eurosceptic party's pressure, his pro-European coalition partner opposing the withdrawal, and working for the election campaign aiming to win the General Elections.Item History between books and movies gone with the wind 1939(university of Oum El Bouaghi, 2016) Houmeur, Meryem; Ghennam, FatimaThis dissertation investigates the position of movies in depicting history. The American cinema underwent systematic improvements. In the 1930's, many changes took place at the level of art, journalism, literature, entertainment and media. Accordingly, this dissertation attempts to shed light on the interrelatedness between history, especially the American Civil War and Hollywood, the prominent center of the U.S. movie industry. Also, it attempts to explore how the civil war era of the American history-as described in the novel Gone with the Wind-is portrayed in the movie that based on the same novel. Finally, it works to examine the movie adaptation and pondering its status with its literary source.Item Muslims in western europe between the challenge of integration and the reality of assimilation(university of Oum El Bouaghi, 2016) Mouassa, Abdelaziz; Ghennam, FatimaThis research work is an attempt to enlighten and discuss the reality of Islam and muslims in western europe through Tariq Ramadan's thoughts. from the second World War, muslims' immigration from Africa and Asia to Western europe did not stop. Nowadays, we are talking about the third generation of muslims and about Islam as the second religion in europe; however, muslims still suffer from discrimination. Tariq Ramadan is one of the european intellectual muslims, who called muslim citizens in western europe for more contribution and participation in their western societies in order to reach a good integration. Ramadan has a reformist orientation; his approach is based on contextualizing islamic sources according to European conditions, so that Muslims can preserve and practice freely their religion and enjoy harmonious citizenship. Muslims in Western Europe are like any citizens in terms of respecting laws and participating in the economic growth of their countries, but some political powers and governments perceive islam as a threat to Europe. Terrorism and its echo in western media helped a lot the spread of Islamophobia which led to a crucial campaign from some fanatic laics against islam and muslims. This situation pushed some countries, namely France and Switzerland, to legislate some racist laws against muslims. Ramadan's approach as well as his intellectual activities participated in clarifying the global message of islam and pushed muslim communities in the west to a good integration.Item Religious conflict and the depiction of othering in george W. bush speeches post 9/11(Université Oum El Bouaghi, 2021) Djaafri, Youmna; Zaouia, Rania; Ghennam, FatimaThe USA hegemony enabled it to play the role of the world's policeman who is responsible on preserving universal peace and in the meantime providing its successive governments with the exclusive privilege of declaring wars as they saw fit. In this respect, this dissertation is an attempt to find out the means used by the USA to justify the use of force as revealed by American presidential speeches. Accordingly, it tackles four selected speeches of President Bush to be analyzed relying on Van Dijk's socio-cognitive approach to reveal its hidden ideology and understand the role played by religion and othering in constructing enemies and legalizing policies toward the Middle East in general. It also sheds light on the importance of discourse and its effects particularly in leading nations and influencing political leaders. The results reveal that indeed Bush used the notion of religious superiority and defending freedom to create disparities and construct war against targeted enemies. More, the claims that the USA is defending the world's freedom and peace are just excuses to legalize invasions and proceed with the strategy of creating adversaries in order to legitimize launching wars for the ultimate aim that is preserving America's hegemony.Item The Afro-americans struggle for freedom(university of Oum-El-Bouaghi, 2014) Rekkeb, Adel; Ghennam, FatimaThis dissertation deals with the afro-american struggle for freedom, and particularly to develop a better understanding on the influence or the effective role of the national association for the advancement of the colored people in ending segregation. Then the dissertation shows how the great events that happened in twentieth century through the Great Migration of the blacks, and the great depression played a great role in the rise of black self-awareness, and the development of their social position; the right for the blacks as real american citizens and their right to have the american citizenship and the right to enjoy their civil rights as indicated by the terms of the 14th, and the 15th amendments to the american constitution. In the late 1870's America declared the beginning of the second industrial revolution which marked the shift from a highly agrarian American society to a more industrial one. In its way towards urbanization, America witnessed a collection of problems led by corruption illustrated in the growth of business corporations and monopolies which caused the gap between the rich and the poor to grow, especially, with the absence of a strong and effective political power. Americans' dissatisfaction was represented firstly by the establishment of both labor unions and the Farmer's Alliances which provided the official establishment of the Populist Party and the emergence of a reform movement that lasted till the dawn of the new century. On the other hand, we find the Algerian situation which looks to some extent like its U.S counterpart with some differences. Algeria witnessed during the period that stretches from the end of the black decade in the late 1990's onwards a set of problems as a result of the rampant corruption that benefited from the dominance of decision-makers in the country with the absence of effective reforms. In front of these facts, an analytical and comparative study between the two countries was pursued in order to find out the similarities and differences between what both nations had experienced and highlight the lessons that Algeria can learn and benefit from the American experience to eliminate corruption. This dissertation attempts to demonstrate the extent of Algeria's readiness to contest a reformist experiment similar to the U.S experience of the early twentieth century.Item The Growing of islamophobia after the 9/11(university of Oum-El-Bouaghi, 2013) Rabhi, Ahlem; Ghennam, FatimaWith the increase of muslim immigrants in the Western countries in the last few decades, hostility and discrimination toward Muslims enlarged in a large scale especially after September 11. So, the concept of Islamophobia, the general fear from Islam and Muslims, becomes deep-rooted in the West and this concept is used to justify the unreasonable acts of non-muslims toward muslims. Though the term Islamophobia is new, the Western hatred andrage toward Muslims were found in the early contacts between islam and christianity. Thiscontact shaped the negative stereotypes toward muslims and strengthened hatred toward them; therefore, normalizing the unfair treatments toward muslims in the West. Thereby, this research aims at clarifying the meaning of Islamophobia and its origins. It also describes the real situation of muslim immigrants in the West before the attacks of the 9/11 and the impact of these events in the growing discrimination and violent acts toward them. The research attempts to unveil the situation under which the muslim diasporas live especially american muslims through explaining how Islamophobia is interpreted. Thereafter, the dissertation focuses on the reaction of muslims in the West toward others’ discrimination and prejudice. Moreover, it suggests some solutions and strategies proposed by scholars to eliminate the wrong stereotypes toward Muslims and decreasing tensions between the two societies to build intercultural dialogue between the West and Islam and therefore lessening Islamophobia in the Western societies.Item The Impact of the mish religious doctrine on the United States of America's political and economic performance(Université Oum El Bouaghi, 2021) Boutheina, Berkane; Ghennam, FatimaThe United States of America has enormous diversity, in which people from all colors, races, ethnicities, and cultures come together to make up a multi-religious society. The American cinema was subjugated to a systematic development that was inaugurated in the 1920s, and evolved to be the first entertainment industry in America. Many historians who delved in this subject demonstrated that, as a new medium, cinema had Two-dimensional areas that tackle from one side its nature as a system that reproduces culture. And from the other side, its stance as an autonomous Industry that produces culture. Interestingly, this dissertation attempts to: First, document the history behind the roaring twenties and Hollywood. second, It lends support to shed the light on the interrelatedness between history, particularly the Jazz Age, and Hollywood. And finally, It works to examine the 2013 movie version of " The Great Gatsby", and the consequential hangover of the two phenomena through the Film's anatomy that consequently involve a potential measurement of Hollywood as a system that produces/reproduces culture.
