    Double standards in CNN's news coverage

    This dissertation investigates the aspects of bias in CNN’s coverage of the United States foreign wars, focusing on the Russian war on Ukraine and the Israeli aggression against Gaza. It seeks to examine the way in which CNN’s reporting presents these two wars, analyzing the channel’s ideological biases, conventions, and dissemination of misleading information. Using historical, analytical, and content analysis approaches, the study evaluates whether CNN adheres to journalistic standards of objectivity and truth or propagates biased narratives. It explores CNN’s role as a major global news outlet of conflict. By analyzing the framing, language, and source selection in CNN’s coverage, the study highlights the impact of media bias. The research underscores the importance of critical media literacy in understanding the relationship between media representation and societal views, advocating for a discerning and analytical approach to media consumption in today’s interconnected society. This dissertation aims to deepen the scholarly understanding of how media messages shape discourse, elucidating the complex mechanisms of media content creation, dissemination, and consumption to foster informed and critical engagement with media narratives in the modern information age.
