    In vitro protective effect of zygophyllum cornutum extract against mitochodrial membrane swelling: mptp test

Continuous MPTP opening has been proved to stimulateapoptosisand lead to advers pathologies. Meanwhile, inhibition of MPTP overopening-induced apoptosis has shown excellent efficacyas atreatment. The effect of Zygopyllum cornutum extract (ZCE) was testedin vitroat different concentrations (20, 50 and 100 μg) via MPTP test with and witout Ca. Significant MPTP overopening inhibition is observed at 20 and 50 μg of ZCE. These preliminary results suggest protective effect of ZCE and the possibility of its use as a source of therapeutic drugs targeting MPT pathway. However, further indepth studies still needed.
