Item American unillateralism VS the UN charter and international law(university of Oum-El-Bouaghi, 2015) Benghalia, Amel; Ghennam, FatimaThis dissertation analyses the united states foreign policy during the presidency of George W. Bush, or what is so called "the Bush doctrine". The US foreign policy during this period is one of the most debatable topics in the field of international relations and conflicts. This dissertation, then, is undertaken to investigate whether the United States war on Iraq was legal, legitimate, or illegal. It attempts to testify American arguments in launching this war, unilaterally, under the lens of the UN Charter and international law .The doctrine of preemptive strike creates serious problems to global peace and security. The US, through adopting this doctrine, affected the credibility of the united nations as the primary institution responsible for preserving world order and stability. The dissertation, therefore, aims to find out whether the Bush doctrine is a break to the principles of the UN and international law. It also explores whether the US failed or succeeded in legitimizing its attacks on Iraq, especially at the international level.
