Item Essential oils of Eucalyptus globulus(University of Oum El Bouaghi, 2024) Belhamel, Batoul; El Habchi, Yamina; Zellagui, AmarEucalyptus globulus, also known as common Eucalyptus or Tasmanian blue gum, Kalitous or Kaffour in Algeria, belonging to the myrtaceae family. The essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus has several leading benefits that play a role in the medical world as an antimicrobial. The rising concern over antimicrobial resistance highlights the need for natural antimicrobial treatments, particularly against infections caused by Candida species and various bacterial pathogens. In this study, the plant was collected from region of Mila, Algeria, the essential oils were extracted from the leaves and fruits of Eucalyptus globulus by hydrodistillation using Clevenger. The yield obtained from leaves (0.87%) was higher than that from fruits (0.50%). Both essential oils demonstrated significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Candida dubliniensis, with the fruit oil showing the largest inhibition zones of 11.3 mm and 10.6 mm, respectively, at a concentration of 20 mg/mL. The leaf oil exhibited moderate activity against Candida krusei . The study also found that E. globulus essential oils exhibited activity against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus but were less effective against Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
