Item Munchausen syndrome by proxy: a psychological and motivational reading of Nicola Yoon's everything, everything 2015(University of Oum El Bouaghi, 2023) Badis, Khouloud; Bekakra, TahaniThe present research examines Munchausen syndrome by proxy, its historical background, its characteristics, and its criteria in Nicola Yoon's work Everything, Everything. The study aims to analyze and familiarize itself with the Munchausen syndrome by proxy from a literary perspective. This work attempts to study the reasons behind the actions of the perpetrator, or the mother, Pauline, and how the victim, Madeline, copes with them. This research uses a psychological theory, which is the psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud (denial and rationalization), and a humanistic theory, which is the theory of human motivation (Maslow's hierarchy of needs), for the purpose of understanding the reasons and motives behind the actions of the perpetrator and the victim. Finally, this research suggests that the Munchausen syndrome by proxy in this case (Everything, Everything) is a reaction to past traumas and feelings. For that reason, it is a tool to escape the threat of those traumas.
